Robin Williams: Is there a connection between his descent into depression and a past abortion?
Kevin Burke, LSW, co- founder of Rachel’s Vineyard Ministries and a Pastoral Associate of Priests for Life, writes:
Actor and comedian Robin Williams died August 11th from a suspected suicide. Fans from around the world are grieving the tragic loss of this talented actor and comedian. Such an act of desperation reveals Williams was clearly in great emotional pain. A headline on NBC News Online shares that Robin Williams Battled Demons for Decades Before His Death.
Many are aware that Williams struggled for years with serious addiction issues. However a lesser known fact is that one of those demons was an abortion that took place in the 1970’s….

We now have information that confirms that Robin Williams death was due to suicide. My own feelings about Robin Williams are that he was a great talent who was obviously suffering emotionally from depression and serious drug addictions. We cannot judge others, but we can try to understand their problems so they aren’t repeated. Therefore, I urge readers who have had an abortion to seek the help they need to deal with the depression, emotional pain and suicidal tendencies that accompany abortion. I know from my experience in counseling families who have dealt with abortion that fathers feel just as much emotional pain as mothers do over the loss of a child. If the problem is not dealt with, it can worsen over time. However, there is hope and healing for those who suffer from the effects of the loss of a child due to abortion. As Burke mentions in his article, attending an abortion recovery program can help a person “learn to find healthy ways of grieving those areas of pain and loss that lead to reconciliation, resurrection and new life…not self destruction and death.”
